To update available information on coral reef health of at least 3 sites of Providencia Island to be used as input for conservation management measures by interested parties including, but not limited to, the managing environmental authority CORALINA.

In March 2019 this expedition was carried out for the first time, when we were able to monitor four dive sites, Tete’s place, Mantas, Loro town and Bajo de San Felipe. The thrill of being able to dive in a place with witnessing sharks and turtles is a great indicator that Providencia’s coral reefs are still healthy.

If you are interested in participating in a Reef Check expedition, don’t hesitate and sign up! You would not feel any regret. Remember that you don’t need to be a scientist or a biologist, you just need your passion and love for the ocean and all the incredible living creatures that inhabit it. Our team of scientists will provide all knowledge and training to engage you adequately in the process of collecting coral reef health data.

My fourth and latest expedition was in Providence Island, where only trained Eco divers could participate. Most of them also participated on the first Reef Repair training program – a reef restoration course developed by Corales de Paz – in San Andrés Island held by Corales de Paz before the Reef Check Providencia. We spent two weeks together, scuba diving every day and at the end it felt like a small united family, working together to make change happen.
